Q: What are your responsibilities at Luminex?

A: I lead a team of Marketing Managers and Clinical Implementation Managers. We’re the primary strategy and product support group for Luminex’s molecular diagnostics sales, focusing on the value of our products and how to position them. My team examines clinical, economic, and operational practices to better understand how our products can fit in the clinical lab. We perform competitive market analyses and revenue planning, and we also work on our internal national sales meeting, setting the agenda and plan for the year.

Q: Where were you before?

A: I came from Ventana, a division of Roche. I started in 2013 as a Sales Representative covering the New York City territory. Over the past few years at Luminex, I’ve been fortunate to experience multiple roles in our Marketing Team.

Q: What drew you to Luminex?

A: I previously worked for a large company with a ton of processes. We were mainly defending our business from a sales perspective, and there wasn’t much growth or flexibility. I thought a midsize company might offer those growth opportunities and give me the chance to have a larger voice. In my interview with the Luminex hiring managers, the culture they described really attracted me. I liked how they approached the overall business and company strategy. Luminex is a flexible, dynamic company. At the time, we were launching our molecular diagnostic sales organization, so I had the opportunity to help shape our direction at the very beginning.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about Luminex?

A: For me, it’s the people. From the leadership team that I work with and support to the larger commercial organization, our group is on the same page from a cultural perspective. Everybody supports each other. It’s a highly collaborative environment, instead of the competitive dynamic you often see in Sales Teams.

Q: If you could solve any clinical or genetic challenge, what would it be?

A: It’s a personal one—Alzheimer’s disease. I lost my grandmother to it. It strips away who you are slowly and relentlessly over time. A cure or even an effective diagnostic tool would be huge progress.

Q: If you weren’t at Luminex, where would you be?

A: I always kicked around the idea of being a college professor teaching world history.

Q: What is something about you that no one at Luminex knows?

A: Most people don’t know that I sang in an a capella group for a period of time during college.

Q: What’s your favorite thing to do on the weekend?

A: Something outdoors! My wife and I love hiking, fishing in a nearby pond, or sitting outside reading by the fire pit.
